The most common ways sound will travel throughout a building is through airborne and structureborne transmission. Airborne sound such as television, music and speech is carried through the airspaces seperating living areas like intermediate floors and partition walls. Structureborne sound, such as footsteps or something dropping are carried by vibration through the fabric of a building.
Sheep Wool Insulation Thermal / Acoustic rolls are suitable for reducing airborne sound transfer as they will reduce the airspace in the internal walls and floors. To reduce structureborne sound transmission, we also supply a number of products to suit a variety of applications.
SilentFloor is a roll of 3mm thick Sheep Wool Insulation, that cushions the impact between the finished surface (laminate, solid or semi-solid wooden floors) and the subfloor (concrete or OSB boards). The layer of wool removes the contact between these two hard surfaces by creating an intermediate layer which absorbs this vibration. SilentFloor rolls are produced in 1m wide rolls and are 20m (65.6 feet) in length. SilentJoist is also a roll of 3mm thick Sheep Wool Insulation, but it is cut into strips that are 150mm (6 inches) wide. The strips are designed to be unrolled onto exposed floor joists before the floorboards or subfloor (OSB board) is put down. SilentJoist removes the contact between the hard surface of both the timber joist and the timber floor/subfloor. SilentJoist is usually held in place by folding the roll around the joist and stapling it into place at the sides. SilentJoist can also be glued to the joist for faster installation time. SilentCarpet is also a roll of 7mm thick Sheep Wool Insulation, which is designed as a premium carpet underlay. SilentCarpet is suitable for use under new or existing carpets in refushment projects or new builds. SilentCarpet is especially popular in older houses where there may be existing gaps in the floorboards, allowing underfloor drafts to make a room feel cold.
